Especially in Michigan

Here's an uplifting song about the Great Lake State by the Red Hot Chili Peppers to go along with an earlier post about an uplifting song about Flint by Sufjan Stevens.

Especially in Michigan

Life is my friend
Rake it up to take it in
Wrap me in your cinnamon
Especially in Michigan
well I could be your friend

White clouds I'm in
A mitten full of fisherman
C'mon Huckleberry Finn
Show me how to make her grin
well I'm in Michigan

Cry me a future
Where the revelations run amok
Ladies and gentlemen
Lions and tigers come running
Just to steal your luck

A rainy Lithuanian
Who's dancing as an Indian
Painted in my tiger skin
Especially in Michigan

Double chins and bowling pins
Unholy Presbyterians
Land is full of medicine
I find it when I'm slipping in
into Michigan

The tainted new librarian
Who fainted when she tucked you in
Let's float away like zeppelins
On stoic gusts of Northern winds

Cry me a future
Where the revelations run amok
Ladies and gentlemen
Lions and tigers come running
Just to steal your luck

Out on the farm we'll be
Swimming with the mother duck
Deep in the mitten where
Lions and tigers come running
Just to steal your luck

Life is my friend
Underwater violins
Order now from Ho Chi Min
A porcelain that comes in twins
when I'm in Michigan

Throw me in the looney bin
'Cause I can take it on the chin
The cleavage of your pillow skin
Is moving like a violin

Cry me a future
Where the revelations run amok
Ladies and gentlemen
Lions and tigers come running
Just to steal your luck

Out on the farm we'll be
Swimming with the mother duck
Deep in the mitten where
Lions and tigers come running
Just to steal your luck, oh yeah

  1. The Red Hot Chili Peppers? Really? They are responsible for some of the worst moments in music over the course of the last 2 decades. On top of that they inspired THOUSANDS of vomit-worthy imitators including one of the most egregious offenders, Flint's Reverend White Line and the First Cousins of Funk. Funky funky. Ugh. Can someone poison these guys water supply?

Sufjan Stevens is horrible as well- his overated brand of indie schlock is merely modern mom rock. Sufferin' Sufjan's Michigan album just shows how little he knows about the state. The Flint song was a TOTAL turd. I'll bet you he has never set foot in half the places he name dropped. Sappy and crappy, this guys fanbase consists solely of overeducated honkies who fancy themselves as edgy and urbane, but actually have their feet planted firmly in the mainstream of putrid Amerikkkan popular CULTure.

Confidential to Gordo: Sorry bub, but the likes of RHCP and SS, darlings of clueless rock critics and the people who trust their opinions, cause me to have a negative reaction. To paraphrase Ted Nugent "Why do so many rock critics like Elvis Costello? Because they all look like Elvis Costello." Link up to "Out of Control Flint Rock N Roll" by the Guilty Bystanders on the Flint Underground Archives or Dayton Family's "Flint Town" for a better representation of home...and speaking of home, rest assured any home sickness will be cured by spending a few days in Flint listening to whats available on our airwaves.

  2. Smurf, calm down, man. I never said I liked this music.

In fact, I can't stand the Chili Peppers, but when you run across a song describing Michigan as a place of "Double chins and bowling pins/Unholy Presbyterians" you have to at least write something about it.

As for Sufjan, I bought the CD, but it's so thoroughly depressing, I can't ever bring myself to listen to it. But, again, he wrote a song about Flint...I feel sort of obligated to write about it.

And thanks for reminding me about "Flint Town." I was just playing that for a friend here and thinking I had to post something, although it will require me to break my vow of avoiding profanity. Oh well.

  3. Sorry Gordon, but surely you can understand why the likes of RHCP and SS would elict such a violent reaction. Hey, Michigan may be the home to double chins and bowling pins but if you couple Kedis with his fellow GR rock star tool, the lame-o from Tool then Michigan is also home to-

Washed up prententious singers/Even worse than likes of Kip Winger

    wakka wakka wakka
