  1. I was at that concert! I can still see everyone standing and screaming "When I look in your eyes ...!" So much fun; so much red leather! The group actually toured out here once and Sarah and I mosied on over to catch them. Very cool poster - wish I had one.

  2. ok i know where grapevine and rock-a-rolla was at but recordland??? gv mall maybe

the mikatam had rock on 1/2 and punk on the other 1/2 in 1980....what a weird time for music...rock seemed to be on the ropes and punk was the new rock...it's still rock-n-roll to me so said Billy Joel in his lame attempt

  3. Recordland sounds like a place that would be in a mall ... I think it was. Sarah (who worked at GV)?

  4. Fantastic artifact, what great dance music that was! I'm fairly sure Recordland was out at GV and I think it was a chain.

  8. Hey slick...I remember that half and half at the mikatam...that owner was creepy! I got up and slammed danced and got a poke in the arm from a studded bracelet from another dancer.Still have my scar! :)
I was at a Romantics concert...I saw them at the Capitol...so maybe it was this one. I wish I had seen the Ramones at the capitol. Ahhh my youth!

  9. one night at the million dollar mikatam one of our hard core rock fans was on the rock side and got bashed in the head with a glass pitcher ( 25 for 1 mixed drinks ) so we used my parents 71 LTD to transport him to FOH

there were 3 of us punked out and the rocker with a t-shirt on his head trying to hold back the blood and the nurse was asking questions when we realized we had mistakenly gave her his fake id which we promptly retreived and gave her the correct info.

the mikatam could probably lead to a whole new discussion....

  10. Some of the responders here mightbe interested in reading the Journal article I posted in the Flint Underground Music Archive (Articles section) from 1980. It covers that early punk scene at The Mikitam.

I'd sure love to know more about that era if anyone would care to write down their memoirs to post in the Stories section there.

  11. Recordland was indeed at the Eastland Mall. It's where I considered and then decided against picking up a 1977 Aerosmith LP, in about 1979. Isn't it odd that I remember that? Odder still, a young woman (I mean really young) working with me just gave me a stack of LPs that included that one. She was collecting them from yard sales and such, and was moving to Oregon, and feeling generous.

  12. I had a gift certificate to grapevine, but never got to use it before it went out-of-business. Oh well!!
