Food for Flintoids

Not one but two grocery stores are slated for downtown Flint.

  1. I hope these stores take an interest in their community enough to take suggestions on what to stock, etc.

In that way, they won't become one of those stores with dusty merchandise, or one of those stores with over priced merchandise. :)

  2. Sure hope these guys can make a go of it. Witherbees, especially, which I've been hearing about for years ("We're starting this month!") but haven't seen any movement on. It'll be interesting to see if a snooty wine-cheese-artisan bread store can keep the lights on.

You might enjoy my book about Flint called "Teardown: Memoir of a Vanishing City," a Michigan Notable Book for 2014 and a finalist for the 33rd Annual Northern California Book Award for Creative NonFiction. Filmmaker Michael Moore described Teardown as "a brilliant chronicle of the Mad Maxization of a once-great American city." More information about Teardown is available at www.teardownbook.com.
