Flint Movie Trivia of the Obscure Variety

Just watched a movie with Will Ferrell. His character once played in a Christian rock band in Flint, of all places. Can you name the film?

  1. Of course, Flint native Mark Farner was one of the first Christian Contemporary Rock artists, though few remember the name now outside of Michigan and Christian Contemporary music circles.

  2. It was actually an interesting film. I may have been one of a handful who actually has seen it other than the critics. If only Will Ferrell would try a dramatic bit more often. Other than Elf, I am tired of his shtick. Zooey Deschanel
is the reason to see this film, as her best work is in films like this and The Good Girl.

  3. I just saw this film a few weeks ago. It was especially strange for my roomate and I, because he plays in a ska band here in Flint, as Ferrell's character did.

  4. I loved the fact that Will's character had to abandon the band when they got too ska.

  7. Zooey Deschanel played Summer Finn (from a fictional Michigan town that has the same as the name of a subdivision in southeast Michigan, the name of which escapes me) in "The 500 Days Of Summer".

You might enjoy my book about Flint called "Teardown: Memoir of a Vanishing City," a Michigan Notable Book for 2014 and a finalist for the 33rd Annual Northern California Book Award for Creative NonFiction. Filmmaker Michael Moore described Teardown as "a brilliant chronicle of the Mad Maxization of a once-great American city." More information about Teardown is available at www.teardownbook.com.
