Deep in Suburbia

Can't get much farther away from Civic Park in Flint than Foster City, California.

Did you load up the truck and move to Foster City?

I dunno, that house looks kinda like something you'd see just off of Ballenger. Take away the palm tree, put the house on a bigger lot, squint and you could be somewhere in the Westwood Heights School District.

If you want an anti-Flint experience go to Dubai or Tahiti or something.

    1. It was really just the palm tree that I found alienating.

Just what are those green particles emanating from the foliage of the tree? Some form of alien germ warfare? The happy spores from that Star Trek episode? Or just the pollen from an obviously extraterrestrial species of palm tree?

    1. Don't be alarmed. It's nothing more than an overly exuberant Instagram filter, employed to make a milieu I've always found weird seem even weirder.

Thanks for commenting. I moderate comments, so it may take a while for your comment to appear. You might enjoy my book about Flint called "Teardown: Memoir of a Vanishing City," a Michigan Notable Book for 2014 and a finalist for the 33rd Annual Northern California Book Award for Creative NonFiction. Filmmaker Michael Moore described Teardown as "a brilliant chronicle of the Mad Maxization of a once-great American city." More information about Teardown is available at www.teardownbook.com.
