I'm wondering if this is one of those cuts that seems bad, but if you look at the numbers it's not such a big deal. Maybe the tax breaks are costing more than the economic benefits of having films made here. It seems like it's worth it, but you never know.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3244123422713926575.post-90433413266090600592011-02-19T09:02:19.413-08:002011-02-19T09:02:19.413-08:00I can't give you any statistical data on how m...I can't give you any statistical data on how much money was brought into the state but I can tell you that because of the influx of movie $$ into the economy a new studio was built in Pontiac with the hopes of attracting more film work. I can also tell you that many young people are taking up telecommunications and film production in college with the hope of staying in state to practice their profession. And wasn't that the goal of doing this in the first place?
The only complaint I have heard from those working with this industry is that there should be a requirement that to get this credit more than half of those hired should be from in-state.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3244123422713926575.post-58386713096926142432011-02-19T08:47:11.395-08:002011-02-19T08:47:11.395-08:00Good question....most of the films seem to feed th...Good question....most of the films seem to feed the stereotype of Michigan and Detroit as depressed.Paul Lorinczihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17157389285221609276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3244123422713926575.post-8546611708173749442011-02-19T08:44:56.164-08:002011-02-19T08:44:56.164-08:00Michigan is not alone in considering the eliminati...Michigan is not alone in considering the elimination of tax credits for Hollywood:

http://www.kcet.org/shows/socal_connected/content/economy/film-tax-credits-some-states-reconsider.htmlGordon Younghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17911010126952753812noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3244123422713926575.post-48386261501712795262011-02-19T08:41:59.654-08:002011-02-19T08:41:59.654-08:00My first impulse is to say this is short sighted. ...My first impulse is to say this is short sighted. The last thing we need is to give outsiders another reason to NOT come to Michigan. Then again, I've never really seen any evidence that these incentives actually help the state. Anyone have any good info?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
