If it's not where I think it is, though, I might not be able to find it. I loved South Carolina. Two things cushioned the blow. First, a stop at the Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH on the way up. Second, going to Safetyville once we settled in.

I had read about Safetyville in some school magazine. It was magical and even more impressive actually being there. I remember writing a letter to a friend back in South Carolina to tell him about this advanced, futuristic land I was now living in.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3244123422713926575.post-61212788556130244662008-09-18T05:43:00.000-07:002008-09-18T05:43:00.000-07:00Alas, it was only with longing gazes that I stood ...Alas, it was only with longing gazes that I stood and watched as my younger brother and little others traversed the Safetyville streets. Too old, I was.

But I can yet hear the echo of small children's voices in the Kearsley Park pavilion and breathe the pungent aroma of its swimming pool's chlorine.

As is the case with far too much of our beloved Flint, it is long gone, but not soon forgotten.theChurchGuyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09838505079184828260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3244123422713926575.post-59377491698808743762008-09-17T20:18:00.000-07:002008-09-17T20:18:00.000-07:00I thought Safetyville was the coolest thing ever!I thought Safetyville was the coolest thing ever!Jeffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05804173880520607666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3244123422713926575.post-91458357263779919662008-09-17T14:06:00.000-07:002008-09-17T14:06:00.000-07:00Gordie, where do you come up with these gems? I wish I still had my license AND ticket for going the wrong way on a one way street. When I pass by Kearsley Park on occasion I can still see the layout of that wonderful place I went to as a child...remember the "Little Mac" bridge???

Again, thanks for the memories.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
