The house at the corner of Third Avenue and Stone Street as it looks today, along with its hand-drawn image in an old Flint map. Flintstoner80 provided the photos and he has plenty more on his Flickr page.

You might enjoy my book about Flint called "Teardown: Memoir of a Vanishing City," a Michigan Notable Book for 2014 and a finalist for the 33rd Annual Northern California Book Award for Creative NonFiction. Filmmaker Michael Moore described Teardown as "a brilliant chronicle of the Mad Maxization of a once-great American city." More information about Teardown is available at www.teardownbook.com.
Very Cool!
ReplyDeletedo we know what year the map was drawn?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I want to see more of the map... especially Detroit street and Saginaw St.
ReplyDeleteThe map is Flint 1890, It is from The Flint Journal Centennial Picture History of Flint book . I will scan some more and post it on my flickr account and Flint Expats can post it here if they like
ReplyDeleteWho are you Flintstoner 80? Great pictures - but how did you get the picture of King Arthur and his truck? Is it a mirage or is that in SF? I learned to drive in that truck. The picture of King Art's brings back plenty of memories. I forgot about the brown and orange paint job.

OK, now I know who you are (flintstoner80 or at least the family) after looking further at the pictures.
ReplyDeleteIf you are from the "A" family, contact Gordie to get my e-mail and let me know how you are all doing.
