Leadership with conviction

The budget situation in Flint is so dire that Mayor Don Williamson has proposed closing the city jail. That's one plan that City Councilman Ehren Gonzales (left) is likely to endorse; he was arrested and jailed Sunday morning after a domestic dispute.

Williamson knows how Gonzales feels. The mayor was sentenced to a federal penitentiary for operating a stolen car ring in the 1960s.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
