Who Remembers Schramm Bakery?

The grandson of Charles F. Schramm Sr., the founder of Schramm Bakery, which was located on 5th Avenue, is looking for any memories or information readers might have related to the bakery, including details on its fate after his grandfather died in 1967.

  1. Would a son of the elder Schramm be Lynn (born around 1946)and grew up in the Civic Park / Haskell neighborhood?

  2. I'm not positive about this but,I think they may be the same family the started the Shramm Dairy many years ago when Flint had a bunch of dairies scattered all over the place. I can think of seven off the top of my head.

  3. The Sons of Charles Schramm were John Phillip whom I am named after died in a train wreck in the bakery truck off Dort Highway in 1949, Charles F. Schramm Jr. and Paul D Schramm (my father) passed away in November, 2010, and yes my grandfather had a dairy as well, but the bakery from what I understood supplied schools, factories, and resturants for the most part. I am just trying to trace down any remnants that may still be out there. I beleive the Flowers Company purchased it from my uncle in 1968 a year after my grandfather's death.

  4. My Dad and my Grandfather before him ran a local retailer, and my Dad remembers Schramm's well as a customer over many years. He mostly recalls them as a cookie bakery...did they specialize at some point?

I'm still trying to get my Dad to become a participant here.

  5. Cool JWilly, Flint might be having problems as most Northeast/Midwest Manufacturing Cities are, but I have to remain opimistic that Cities such as Flint do not have to totally disappear and can be saved..... Flint has always been plagued by such things as gangs and such, is just more widely reported in this day and age. My granfather came to Flint from Germany in the 1890's. I looked around Flint on Google earth, but depending on how old the images are things do not look as awful as the press makes them out to be. Anyways.....I would like to see items related to my grandfather's bakery as most of the pictures and such went with my aunt and uncle which are both deceased. And Yes JWilly I agrre with u, we need many more people here.

  7. I grew up in Flint through junior high (Bryant Jr. High). Went to Pierson Elementary. This was the 50's and early 69's. I remember Schramm cookies. Two of my friends were twins Charlene and Cecilia Schramm. Good memories!
