  1. This had to be handy for opening mail and the occasional alley fight.

  2. That's what they used to edit the stories after they were on the final printing plate. Good for editing out names in embarassing stories. You've heard of stories being kept out of the paper? Quick and dirty remedy. All that was left is some funny looking marks. :)

  3. The Len Hoyes comment, while hilarious, was a bit too risque for Flint Expatriates, but I wanted you to know I appreciated it.

  4. Aw, come on Gordie...let's see Len's comment. End the tyranny of Official Censorship!

  5. I understand TSA has a box full of these.

  6. I had a ton of these when I worked there (1989-1995). They were just short enough that you received a really massive paper-cut if you tried to open cardboard boxes too quickly with them. I can almost guarantee that somewhere in the junk drawer of my desk at home there's one still lurking.

  7. I still have several of these at home (mom worked there for 35 years). I also have a wicked scar on my hand from when I cut myself with one as a kid!

You might enjoy my book about Flint called "Teardown: Memoir of a Vanishing City," a Michigan Notable Book for 2014 and a finalist for the 33rd Annual Northern California Book Award for Creative NonFiction. Filmmaker Michael Moore described Teardown as "a brilliant chronicle of the Mad Maxization of a once-great American city." More information about Teardown is available at www.teardownbook.com.
