Buick: Big, Bold, Buoyant

  1. Marketing from right at the "tail" end of our WWII-initiated infatuation with high performance aircraft as exemplars of what other transportation machines should be like.

Hence tail fins, Rocket 88s, Buck-Rogers-stylized hood ornaments, rocket-exhaust-flame-evocative taillight lenses, front bumper "nose cones" (which of course pushed other buttons as well), overuse of "take off" in commercial voiceovers, and...in this case...literal references to "air born" and to the identifier of our then-highest-tech fast nuclear bomber.
