Rich Frost took these photos in 2002 as the United Way building, located just south of the main Post Office on James P Cole Blvd., was being demolished.

  1. Do these pictures make any one else feel sad? I MISS the old Flint and it hurts to see people who know nothing of Flint back in the 1950's and 1960's saying things bad about my hometown....like bull doze the whole town who cares! We do! Our hearts care! We were BLESSED to grow up in Flint,MICH in the 50's and 60's! We hold Flint dear and near!

  3. I don't remember the exact words but there is a verse in the song "They paved Paradise and Put in a Parking Lot" that goes something like "you don't know what you miss until its gone." KarenC58's comments here and the pictures of downtown in the fifties that Fred Gonzales passed along for your later blog reflects that song lyric. It was a very good childhood experience for kids in the Flint of the 50s and 60s, that unfortunately wasn't appreciated enough at the time because one didn't realize how lucky they were except now using 20/20 hindsight.
