Flint Artifacts: Flint Journal, August 14, 1945

Thanks again to Tom Pohrt for the artifact.

  1. I want this. Must have. Gimme.

  2. I see the quality of editing has stayed basically the same with the sub-head "President Truman Announces Surrender".
To be kind, I'll assume that the average man in Flint knew that the war was going very well for the US at that point so he didn't ponder "Who Surrendered?!".

  3. Ha! I missed that. Truman, you quitter. Just when we had the war won, too.

Thanks for commenting. I moderate comments, so it may take a while for your comment to appear. You might enjoy my book about Flint called "Teardown: Memoir of a Vanishing City," a Michigan Notable Book for 2014 and a finalist for the 33rd Annual Northern California Book Award for Creative NonFiction. Filmmaker Michael Moore described Teardown as "a brilliant chronicle of the Mad Maxization of a once-great American city." More information about Teardown is available at
