Smoke Signals

Unlike San Francisco, people still smoke in Cleveland. Some Clevelanders smoke and put on lipstick while walking at a brisk pace. (Technically, she's also giving me the finger, but I think it was inadvertent.) That's not easy to pull off. I really like this city. (Click photo to enlarge.)

  1. OMG. This is too funny!
You are right about that finger, though maybe not about it being inadvertent.

Thanks for a great laugh with this one.

  2. Flint had its own horrible smoke signals today -- Jackson Hardy house on Garland in Carriage Town burned to the ground, taking the Urban Alternatives House with it. Everybody's just heartsick.

Thanks for commenting. You might enjoy my book about Flint called "Teardown: Memoir of a Vanishing City," a Michigan Notable Book for 2014 and a finalist for the 33rd Annual Northern California Book Award for Creative NonFiction. Filmmaker Michael Moore described Teardown as "a brilliant chronicle of the Mad Maxization of a once-great American city." More information about Teardown is available at
