Hot Housing Trend

While Flint tries to figure out how to get rid of unwanted houses, Shantytowns are popping up all over.

  1. Very Interesting. The photo-essay was pretty revealing along with the comment that some of them were tired of the attention. It might just be the writer's slant, but I was struck by the pragmatic nature of the people highlighted. That said, I bet alot of them would rather live in a Cali 'hoovervile' than and abandoned Flint 'home'.

  2. Yeah, I'm guessing that an actual job is probably more likely in the West rather than Flint in the near future.

Thanks for commenting. You might enjoy my book about Flint called "Teardown: Memoir of a Vanishing City," a Michigan Notable Book for 2014 and a finalist for the 33rd Annual Northern California Book Award for Creative NonFiction. Filmmaker Michael Moore described Teardown as "a brilliant chronicle of the Mad Maxization of a once-great American city." More information about Teardown is available at www.teardownbook.com.
