Flint Postcards: Elms Motor Lodge

The Elms Motor Lodge in the mid fifties.

UPDATE: The former Elms Motor Lodge went up in flames on February 2, 2012.

Here's the original post from July 5, 2008.

Jim of L-Town comments: It has been a long time since the Elms looked that good. Last time I was there, I was accompanying the Flint vice squad on a prostitution sting for a story in the Journal. The room the decoy was using was so dirty and smelly that no one wanted to sit anywhere for fear that something small would hop on your clothing and hitch a ride outside. I remember thinking about what kind of person would ever put their head on a pillow in such a deranged place. There is a hotel/motel across the street in the same area that rents rooms by the hour/day/week/month. It is actually worse.

Flint Postards: Lobby of the Sheraton Motor Inn

Flint Expatriates has reveled in the glories of the Sheraton Motor Inn on Pierson Road in the past but never captured the splendor of the 1970s-1980s era lobby until now. Note the dizzying effect of the geometric patterned carpet paired with the mind-blowing wall art. With the mirrored ceiling, the lobby could have been transformed into a high-energy disco in the evenings. In fact, there seems to be some pickup action happening in the middle of the day over by the door. (Not sure that couple knew they were being photographed.) And for you Powers grads of a certain age, is that teacher Tom Dutkowski grading papers on a giant briefcase?

For those who want to get depressed on a Saturday morning, go here for some more recent photos.

Flint Postcards: Howard Johnson's...Again

I hate to do this after the comment below about the first HoJo's postcard, but here's another glimpse of Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge.
