You might enjoy my book about Flint called "Teardown: Memoir of a Vanishing City," a Michigan Notable Book for 2014 and a finalist for the 33rd Annual Northern California Book Award for Creative NonFiction. Filmmaker Michael Moore described Teardown as "a brilliant chronicle of the Mad Maxization of a once-great American city." More information about Teardown is available at www.teardownbook.com.

nice shot behind home plate :)
ReplyDeleteReally, the nicest (when taken care of) of the local high school fields back in the day.
ReplyDeleteFor a few weeks now there has been a cricket game going on at Mama Calvo Field every Saturday and Sunday.
ReplyDeleteYou're kidding? What time? This sounds like a photo op.
ReplyDeleteUsually in the afternoon (1-3ish maybe). Saturdays for sure. I have been seeing them out there for over a month now.
ReplyDeleteThe shot from home plate is excellent! As a long time backstop for school and summer baseball teams, that is a view I remember fondly... but haven't seen for 30+ years. Thanks for the memory refresher.
ReplyDeleteJim Abbott struck me out on 3 straight pitches right there. Maybe I was admiring the view..
ReplyDeleteI played four years of varsity ball for Central. A lot of great memories on that field. Sucks the red and black may never take that field again. R.I.P. C-Town 1923-2009
ReplyDeleteI'm a high school math teacher in Flint and in the process of starting a program here at the Central's field! Anyone interested in helping out please let me know. smitha394@gmail.com cell - 810.252.4958
