Flint Photos: W. 1st Avenue in Carriage Town

  1. Sad to see. I grew up at the corner of W. Second Avenue and Mason street. My grandparents, uncle, great-aunt and great-uncle lived across the street at 407. My old address was 402.

Sadly, both properties are now vacant lots. I wonder what happened to the houses?

  2. Likely the houses were either demolished or victims of arson. Sadly, that is the reality around here nowadays.

Thanks for commenting. You might enjoy my book about Flint called "Teardown: Memoir of a Vanishing City," a Michigan Notable Book for 2014 and a finalist for the 33rd Annual Northern California Book Award for Creative NonFiction. Filmmaker Michael Moore described Teardown as "a brilliant chronicle of the Mad Maxization of a once-great American city." More information about Teardown is available at www.teardownbook.com.
